Top Five Winter Reads | T5T

Hey guys, it is Tuesday and so time for our Top 5 Tuesday topic. If you don’t already know the Top 5 Tuesday meme was created by Shanah over at the BionicBookWorm, and every week we get a bookish topic to talk about. This weeks topic is top 5 winter reads. With this topic I think about it in two different ways, the first being books that actually remind me of or take place in a wintry setting, and the other way is books that I enjoy reading in winter. So lets talk about my top five winter books;

Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

Snow Like Ashes

This is a series that includes both kingdoms for each of the seasons and also elemental magic linked to the seasons. This is a series that always reminds me of winter since our main characters are all from the kingdom of Winter. This series is full of magic, a lot of politics especially as the series goes on and some really interesting characters.

Hunted by Meagan Spooner

This is another book that reminds me of winter and that is because once again it is set in winter. This is a Beauty and the Beast retelling that stays quite true to the original story while also adding so much more interest with the backstories of both beauty and the beast. This is my favourite beauty and the beast retelling that I have ever read and always recommend it to anyone who loves the original story or movies 😀

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

The Cruel Prince

One of the things that I love to read in Winter are dark and brutal books, I think that it is just the dark and cold time of the year so I just always feel like reading something that fits with that mood. This is one of the most brutal and political books that I have ever read and I loved every minute of it. Another thing that I love about this for winter is fae and this book is full of it. I do have a full review for this book if you want to hear some more of my thoughts, I will leave a link here.

The Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Daughter of Smoke and Bone

This is an epic fantasy full of monsters, magic and other worlds that is perfect to read in wintry weather, I actually did read this whole series during winter. This is one of my favourite fantasy series and it is all because of the characters and all of there extremely interesting backstories. You really want to go into this series without knowing much about it as that makes everything so much more of a surprise as you go along 🙂

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The Night Circus

This is an incredibly immersive book that takes place in an amazing magical circus. The book spans years and different countries so we are often in winter in this book too. I think the magical and whimsical aspects of this book really make it a more wintry read for me since it just really fits the mood of the season. I have a full review for this book as well if you want to hear more of my thoughts, I will leave a link to my review here.

So those are my top five winter books. What types of books do you guys enjoy reading in winter?

Thank you for reading!

  1. I know what you mean, there’s something about fae books that make them perfect for winter! But ahhhhhhh I absolutely LOVE The Night Circus!!! It’s so dark and mysterious and magical that I can totally see it being a winter read. The Daughter of Smoke and Bone is on my TBR and I’m so excited to start it! I might have to bump it up the list for winter 😃
