Hey guys, I am back today to talk about some more of my underappreciated books, and by that I mean books that have been on my shelves for a really long time and that I don’t talk about enough. I am really enjoying giving some attention to my TBR books since I have sooo many of them and I am not able to talk about them regularly. So if you guys don’t know this meme was created by Lisa at Bookshelf Fantasies and you basically talk about one of the books that you have had on your shelf for a long time. So lets get into my pick for this week;
Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around—and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old he’s been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. Then a stunning opportunity presents itself, in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors, and he has to seize his chance or lose his dream forever.
What happened in Weep two hundred years ago to cut it off from the rest of the world? What exactly did the Godslayer slay that went by the name of god? And what is the mysterious problem he now seeks help in solving?
The answers await in Weep, but so do more mysteries—including the blue-skinned goddess who appears in Lazlo’s dreams. How did he dream her before he knew she existed? And if all the gods are dead, why does she seem so real?
Welcome to Weep.
When Did I Buy This Book?
I haven’t had this book for that long (although it does feel like a really long time since I usually try to read the books straight buying them), I bought it a little while after it came out early last year.
Why Did I Buy It?
I loved the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor and that is usually a pretty good motivator for me to buy more books from the same author. I had seen the book around for quite some time especially on booktube where it was getting a tonne of hype. The synopsis of this book sounded really interesting and I have no doubt that Laini Taylor has created another mysterious and whimsical world that I will fall in love with. Another thing that really got me to pick it up was the cover, it is absolutely stunning!
Why Haven’t I Read It Yet?
The reason that I haven’t read this book yet is because I do kind of have a love-hate relationship with Laini Taylor’s books. Don’t get me wrong I absolutely loved the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy but they just took me soooo long to read. Each book took me about 6 weeks to get through, where as I can usually get through most books within a week or two and it was mainly due to the writing style, which I really enjoyed but just made the books a little slow going. I feel like to read this book I would have to dedicate quite a lot of time to it and at the moment I have so many other books on my TBR and I just don’t feel like I have the time right now. I would absolutely love to read this book some time soon so maybe one day I will just give up and read it already 🙂
Let me know if you guys have read this book and what you thought of it. Also maybe how long it took you to read it as well, maybe it will tip the scales and get me to read it sooner if you guys got through this book really quick 😀
Thank you for reading!
